Autoproduction

Il est rare mais pas exceptionnel que les artistes aujourd'hui se produisent eux-mêmes (d'où le terme « autoproduction »), surtout depuis l'arrivée des home studios et de l'enregistrement numérique, moins onéreux que l'analogique. Le gigantesque matériel de traitement du son et de l'information musicale (enregistreurs, tables de mixages et d'effets, compresseurs, limiteurs, mastering, …) prend aujourd'hui la forme de complexes logiciels, qui ne renient pas pour autant les machines traditionnelles, mais ouvrent la voie à une « démocratisation » de la production musicale.

Les plus gros freins à l'autoproduction ne sont pas tant les moyens techniques à mettre en œuvre, mais plus les moyens de distributions et donc de promotion pour faire découvrir les œuvres au grand public.

L'artiste autoproduit doit s'occuper seul de l'enregistrement de l'album, du mastering, du pressage de disque, de l'édition, de la distribution et de la promotion ainsi que des investissements liés à ces différentes étapes.
